The Pharmacist Support has expanded its reach and support for pharmacists, trainees and students in navigating challenges relating to mental health, financial difficulty, workplace wellbeing and the pressures of study and training.

In its 2025 Impact Report, the independent charity said its has responded to increasing demand for support across the pharmacy profession.

The report comes at a time when pressures on pharmacy teams remain intense.

Findings from the latest Workforce Wellbeing Survey show that 87% of respondents are at high risk of burnout, while 61% have considered leaving their current role or the profession within the last year.

During 2025, the charity:

  • Processed 438 applications for financial assistance, distributing £171,438 in grants
  • Handled 1,032 enquiries through its support services
  • Funded 700 counselling sessions, representing a 59% increase compared with 2024
  • Achieved a 149% increase in ACTNow campaign sign-ups, with more than 8,000 registrations across its wellbeing campaigns
  • Recorded a 156% increase in visits to its website
  • Received a record 88 applications to its Student Bursary Scheme
  • Achieved a 90% positive wellbeing impact rating among service users and a 95% likelihood of beneficiaries returning for support if needed in the future.

The report also highlighted some of the experiences of beneficiaries, including a student who was able to complete her MPharm degree despite experiencing homelessness and financial challenges, a pharmacist whose recovery from addiction was supported by the charity and another who rebuilt her life after serious health challenges.

The charity also launched several new initiatives during the year, including a comprehensive financial wellbeing programme developed in partnership with Rebel Finance School, a new nationwide Walk for Wellbeing community fundraising campaign and the official launch of its A Dose of Wellbeing podcast.

Pharmacist Support plans to continue to invest in new partnerships, digital innovation and targeted wellbeing support, while exploring if and how the charity could extend support to pharmacy technicians in the future.

Esther Sadler-Williams, Chair of Trustees at Pharmacist Support, said: "The latest Workforce Wellbeing Survey serves as a clear reminder that the pressures facing our pharmacy family remain significant, with 87% of respondents at high risk of burnout. While we are encouraged that more people than ever reached out to us for support in 2025, the figures only tell part of the story.

"This year, two beneficiaries joined one of our Board meetings to share their experiences. Hearing directly how our support had helped them navigate some of the most challenging moments in their lives was incredibly moving and served as a powerful reminder that behind every enquiry, counselling session and grant awarded is a person with their own story.

"We are proud of what has been achieved, but the need for our work has never been clearer. We remain committed to ensuring every member of our pharmacy family knows they have somewhere to turn and can access the support they need, when they need it."
