The Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA), an independent non-profit organisation to protect the interests and welfare of pharmacists, has witnessed record growth in the last 12 months.

PDA declared that they are an organisation with 40,000 members with a 5.2 per cent rise from April 2024 to March 2025 post their AGM held on June 26, 2025.

They stated that the new 1,977 members joined after realising the importance of PDA, according to the organisation.

Among them, 300 of them came in as a result of PDA’s amalgamation with Boots Pharmacists Association (BPA).

The PDA’s membership numbers are checked and verified by an independent, approved person as required by law, while other pharmacy groups may report numbers that aren’t officially checked.

Even though 40,000 is a milestone, the organisation aims to grow further by inviting new members.

“We were created by, and for pharmacists and we do not represent owners, so have no conflict in that regard. We are committed to remaining exclusively for pharmacists and are by far the largest membership organisation that has that focus,” says Mark Pitt, PDA Union General Secretary.
