A range of pharmacies are up for sale in the South West of England and South Wales and they are mostly getting purchased by first-time buyers, according to an analysis by Richard Thomas, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co.
There have been many independent and retirement sales in the South West and South Wales, as the market stabilises following the past few years of mass corporate disposals, the blog post stated.
The area still represents value for money in comparison to typically more expensive areas, such as the South East, it added.
An increasing number of operators with two or three pharmacies are looking to expand their portfolios.
Though most buyers are interested in pharmacies in larger towns or cities, the rural areas also represent excellent value for money.
Thomas expects the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) in Wales to have a positive impact, especially for rural pharmacies.
The EPS is expected to be fully integrated in Wales by November 2026.
Christie expects increased investor interest across the pharmacy sector this year.
The buyers are focusing on higher‑performing pharmacies and heightened competition is likely to increase prices.
