Online pharmacy major Pharmacy2U has entered the care home pharmacy sector by acquiring Care Quality Pharmacy (CQP), a distance-selling pharmacy catering exclusively to care homes.

Founded in 2013, CQP provides prescription and NHS services to a wide range of independent and national care home groups, extra care services, and domiciliary care agencies.


CQP operates across England, Scotland and Wales, and helps care homes deliver high-quality care to residents, while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Additional services include paper-based and electronic MAR charts (eMAR), care planning integrations, eLearning as well as face-to-face training and support through compliance visits and audits.

CQP combines advanced dispensing technology, structured clinical governance, and dedicated operational teams to deliver a consistent, high-quality pharmacy service at scale.

It delivers dependable monthly medication cycles, responsive interim supply and dedicated account management.

As per the terms of sale, CQP co-founder and operations director Huzaifa Hassanali will continue in his current role.

Leeds-based Pharmacy2U is the UK’s largest digital healthcare platform, serving over 1.8 million patients.

It had earlier acquired Lloyds Direct, Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor, The PharmPet Co, and Medicines Management Solutions.
Law firm Squire Patton Boggs is supporting Pharmacy2U for this transaction.

According to NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA), the number of care home patients aged 65 and over in England receiving NHS prescriptions increased from 323,000 to 331,000 in 2024/25.

These patients received an estimated 42 million prescription items at a drug cost of £410 million in 2024/25, compared to 40 million items costing £396 million the previous year.
