  • The number of NHS patient nominations also rose 86.6 percent to 1,519, from 814 in the previous year

Pharmacy2U has posted a loss of £637,000 for the year ended 31 March 2025, as against a profit of £2.72 million in the preceding year.

In its latest Companies House filing last week, the Leeds-based distance selling pharmacy stated that its pre-tax loss widened to £5.7m from £3.4m last year, while the revenue increased by 68 percent to £334m from £199m.

The company claimed the growth was driven by continued investment in marketing to attract new patients at a reduced cost per registration, and growth of the Online Doctor business.

The number of NHS prescription items despatched rose 64.5 percent to £31.24m from £19m.

The number of NHS patient nominations also rose 86.6 percent to 1,519, from 814 in the previous year.

The growing patient base led to distribution costs increasing to £58.32m from £32.88m in 2024-25.

The company said, "Reliance on NHS funding has also been mitigated by significant growth in private prescriptions in the year."

Pharmacy2U completed three acquisitions - PharmPet, Medicines Management Solutions Limited, and Expert Health Limited, which trades as Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor.

The PharmPet acquisition brought the provision of pet prescriptions and online retail of non-prescription pet healthcare into the group.

Medicines Management Solutions provides pharmacist services to GPs and is closely aligned with the long-term NHS strategy to reduce pressure on GPs.

The acquisition of Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor has accelerated growth in this rapidly expanding online doctor market.

These acquisitions and their subsequent integration of multiple businesses incurred a cost of £2.53m (as against £1.77m last year).

"These were one-offs in nature and outside the usual course of business, which do not form part of the continuing expenses of the company," it added.

Pharmacy2U's monthly average number of employees (including executive directors) during the year had doubled to 1,056, as against 502 last year, and the yearly wage bill rose to £26.24m from £15.92m.

The company stated that the cash flow forecasts and the availability of funding show that it has sufficient funds to enable it to meet its liabilities, and those of group entities, for at least one year.
