The Royal College of Pharmacy (RCPharm) has launched a two-year transition strategy outlining plans to develop the organisation and work to strengthen its role within the pharmacy profession.

The strategy, titled Building the future of pharmacy: our strategy 2026-2028, was unveiled by President Tase Oputu during the organisation’s annual conference, the first as the Royal College of Pharmacy.

Under the theme “Your College, Your Home, Our Future”, the strategy sets out how the College intends to become more influential, increase its visibility and deliver greater value to members by 2028.

It also outlines plans to strengthen its role in shaping pharmacy policy, work more closely with partners across the sector and involve members, patients, partners and other stakeholders in decisions about its future.

College invites members and public to shape its future

Alongside the strategy, RCPharm has launched a new engagement initiative, Your Voice: Create RCPharm’s future together, inviting members, patients and the public to share their views and priorities. A new online portal has been launched to collect ideas and feedback.

The College plans to hold roadshows, events and discussions across the UK during 2027, as well as engage with overseas members and partners, to help develop its longer-term strategy.

Oputu said: “This strategy is about building a college that is bold, outward-looking and determined to champion pharmacy’s contribution to better patient care. It sets out how we will strengthen our voice, grow our influence and support pharmacists to thrive in a rapidly changing healthcare environment”.

Four priorities outlined in transition strategy

The two-year strategy identifies four key priorities: establishing the Royal College of Pharmacy, becoming the home of pharmacy, advancing pharmacy to support excellence in patient care, and transforming member experience and engagement.

The College said the priorities would guide its work in developing the organisation, strengthening pharmacy advocacy through partnerships and increasing engagement with its members.

Joe Irvin, Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees, said the strategy would focus on delivering greater value and involvement for members while building a stronger college.

He added that the “Your Voice” initiative would provide an opportunity for members, partners, patients and the public to contribute to discussions about the organisation's long-term future.
