Key Summary

  • New surgical hub in Scunthorpe approved to cut NHS waiting lists
  • Hub to offer NHS-funded surgeries with 20 staff and 12 patient rooms
  • Expected to open by late summer 2026, boosting access and local infrastructure

North Lincolnshire Council has granted approval for a new surgical hub by One Health Group, which is hoped will help cut the NHS waiting times.

One Health Group serves nearly 12,000 patients annually via its existing hubs.

The new independent facility will be constructed on the undeveloped scrubland off Normandy Road.

Orthopedics, spine, general, gynecology and urology surgeries are the NHS funded medical procedures that will take place here.

The Local Democracy Reporting Services expects the One Health Hubs to deliver more services in regions with minimum NHS services.

“We're delighted to confirm that our first site will be in Scunthorpe, and that our first surgical hub there will bring both localised specialist surgical services and employment to a much-deprived area," announced Adam Binns, chief executive officer of One Health Group.

Twenty staff and 12 en-suite bedrooms for patients will be available in the Scunthorpe surgical hub.

Even though the construction date remains unfixed, the hub is expected to start functioning during the late summer of 2026.

Binns also added that “We are confident the additional capacity provided by our first surgical hub, will complement the ongoing organic growth driven by our existing community-based outreach clinics and third party surgical operating locations".
