The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT), which provides financial aid for the families of those working in the convenience, grocery and pharmacy trades, has announced that applications for 2025/2026 undergraduate bursaries have now opened, running from 1st August until 15th October.
Through the charity’s bursary scheme, university students whose parent or carer is employed in an eligible profession, such as convenience retailer, supermarket store worker, or pharmacy technician, can apply to receive up to £3,000. The bursary can be put towards tuition fees, or other expenses such as course materials, equipment or travel costs.
Over the last five years, LTCT has awarded more than 1,600 undergraduate and 350 postgraduate bursaries across over 150 different institutions.
Overall, a total of £10.7 million has been distributed to students across the UK. With a 33 per cent uplift in awards last year alone, the Trust continues to grow in reach and impact, helping more families each year navigate the rising cost of higher education.
With university costs rising year after year, the bursary is there to support families who might be worried about how to fund their child’s next step. LTCT believes that no one should miss out on the chance to fulfil their academic potential, and this support aims to help ease some of the financial pressure for both students and their parents.
Professor Anna Vignoles CBE FBA, Director of The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust, said: “This is one of the most exciting times of the year at LTCT, as we prepare for a new wave of undergraduate bursary applicants, seeking to join the ranks of universities nationwide. Each successful award means another student will be that bit closer to their goals and we’re proud to play a part in that journey.
"Opening access to further education is vital for the grocery and pharmacy trades, as we know that easing financial pressure can make all the difference. If you or someone in your family works in these sectors, we’d strongly encourage you to apply. Applications are now open, so don’t miss it!"
Alongside the undergraduate bursary, a postgraduate scheme is currently open for those keen to return to university, closing on 1st September 2025.
