  • The Welsh Government has introduced two "Quality Statements" for mental health and self-harm, establishing consistent standards across the NHS and social care.
  • A new £34.3m hub in Ely, Cardiff, will bring GP, mental health, and neurodiversity support together under one roof.

The Welsh Government has announced that it will be delivering open-access, same-day mental health care.

This shift is marked by the introduction of two new Quality Statements that set clear, national standards for mental health and self-harm support across the NHS and social care sectors.

The standards are designed to offer more accessible, compassionate care and move away from traditional tiered systems toward a flexible, recovery-focused approach.

These national standards are already being put into practice through a £34.3 million investment in the Park View Health and Wellbeing Hub in Cardiff.

Construction on the Treseder Way site is scheduled to begin in June 2026. This hub will integrate GP services, outpatient clinics, and specialized mental health support under one roof.

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Jeremy Miles said: “The hub will help Ely and Caerau residents access a wide range of services in one place, bringing more NHS care closer to people’s homes.

“It will also deliver long-term economic benefits for the area, supporting job creation and economic regeneration during the construction and operation phases.”

To support this transition, 20 pilot projects have already been launched, offering support without the need for a GP referral.
