Creating healthier, more supportive workplaces across pharmacy is at the heart of Pharmacist Support's award-winning course, Embracing a Workplace Wellbeing Culture.

Designed for managers, supervisors, newly qualified professionals and aspiring leaders, the course is helping to drive a fresh approach to workplace wellbeing and empower individuals to foster positive change within their teams.

Through six flexible online modules, participants develop practical skills in communication, resilience and growth mindset while gaining the confidence to support meaningful conversations around mental health and wellbeing. The course draws on research into what can positively influence wellbeing at work and, importantly, helps participants consider how this can be put into practice within their own workplace.

Following strong engagement with the course across the pharmacy sector, Pharmacist Support is now looking to extend its reach further through employers and organisations across the profession with a new initiative.

From learning to workplace-wide change

Building on this work, we are now preparing to launch a new workplace wellbeing scheme for pharmacy employers.

The Embracing a Workplace Wellbeing Culture Scheme will champion wellbeing, helping employers with a practical, pharmacy-specific framework to help them build on what they are already doing well, identify opportunities for development and make wellbeing a more natural part of everyday working life.

Pharmacist Support recognises that every pharmacy workplace is different. The scheme is not about being perfect or taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, it is about making a meaningful commitment to workplace wellbeing and continuing to develop that approach over time.

Many employers and managers want to help and support their teams, but they often aren't sure what exactly they can do. Our course helps people understand what research tells us can positively influence wellbeing in the workplace and, importantly, how they can put that learning into practice.

The new scheme takes this a step further at an organisational level. It will give pharmacy employers a practical framework to build on the good work they are already doing, identify areas where they could do more and demonstrate their commitment to creating a workplace culture where wellbeing is valued and supported.

Introducing the Essential Eight

Pharmacist Support's wellbeing offer will also continue to develop with the launch of our “Essential Eight” this year.

The Essential Eight takes a holistic approach to wellbeing tailored to the pharmacy profession. It builds on the foundations of the New Economics Foundation’s Five Ways to Wellbeing with – connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give – alongside three further areas reflecting Pharmacist Support’s developing wellbeing work: sleep, nutrition and financial wellbeing.

At its heart is a simple idea: looking after your wellbeing does not mean being perfect or changing everything at once. Small, regular steps in the areas that matter to you can make a meaningful difference over time.

The Essential Eight will connect Pharmacist Support’s pharmacy family with practical information, tools, learning and support to help people explore the different areas of their wellbeing and identify changes that feel realistic for their own circumstances.

The Essential Eight gives our pharmacy family a simple way to look at their wellbeing as a whole, explore what might be most important to them right now, and discover practical steps and support that could help.

It isn’t about doing all eight things at once. We want to encourage people to start where they are and choose small, realistic steps that work for them.

The Essential Eight will take centre stage during Pharmacist Support’s autumn events programme, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the framework, meet the team and discover practical resources to support their wellbeing.
