Desmopressin 100ml intranasal solution faces supply disruption

The Department of Health and Social Care (DH) has issued a medicine supply notification for DDAVP (Desmopressin) 0.01% w/v (100 micrograms/ml) intranasal solution.

The medicine will remain out of stock until mid 2021. Supplies of desmopressin 100 micrograms/ml nasal spray (10 micrograms per actuation) remain available from Aspire Pharma Ltd and can fully support demand during this time for patients on doses ≥10 microgram.

Unlicensed imports of Desmopressin 100 micrograms/ml intranasal solution can be sourced.

There is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems so an EPS prescription for unlicensed Desmopressin 100micrograms/ml intranasal solution cannot be issued.

If a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, an FP10 paper prescription should be issued as ‘Desmopressin 100 micrograms/ml intranasal solution (Special Order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special.

Supply notification for Dulcolax 5mg suppositories

The DH has also issued medicine supply notification for Dulcolax (bisacodyl) 5mg suppositories.

Dulcolax 5mg suppositories will remain out of stock until early December.  However, Dulcolax 10mg suppositories will remain available in pharmacy shelves.
