The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has appointed three new members, including the outgoing Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for Scotland Rose Marie Parr, to its governing body.

The terms of new joiners Parr, Selina Ullah and Yousaf Ahmad will begin on April 1, 2020.

They are replacing Alan Kershaw, Digby Emson OBE and Evelyn McPhail, who are standing down after serving two terms on the Council.

In a statement issued today, Nigel Clarke, Chair of the GPhC, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointments of Rose Marie, Selina and Yousaf. Each of them brings a wealth of high-level experience and expertise – they will be valuable assets to the Council.”

The GPhC began its recruitment campaign in July last year, seeking three Council members, including two registered pharmacy professionals and one non-health professional members.

While Parr and Ahmad have pharmacy background, Ullah is joining the Council as a ‘lay’ member.

Parr, who has been the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for Scotland since 2015, is retiring from the role in July 2020. She was previously the chair of Scottish Pharmacy Board of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and also served as the chair of GPhC’s Board of Assessors, which oversees the registration assessment.

Selina Ullah is the deputy chair and senior independent director of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, board member of Locala Community Partnerships CIC, non-executive director of Accent Group and chair of various charities. She has over 25 years of non-executive board experience.

Ahmad, who was part of the UKCPA and RPS bodies, is currently the Chief Pharmacist of Care UK Healthcare group that covers primary, secondary, health in justice and residential care.
