The United Kingdom has begun the rollout of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine today (April 7) starting in Carmarthenshire, Wales, health secretary Matt Hancock said.
“I’m delighted we can start the UK rollout of the Moderna vaccine in west Wales today," he said.
The government announced in November last year that it had secured two million doses of Moderna Inc’s Covid-19 vaccine which was found to have been almost 95 per cent effective.
Culture secretary Oliver Dowden said in a television interview in March that the UK had ordered 17 million doses of the Moderna jab.
Hancock added: “The UK government has secured vaccines on behalf of the entire nation and the vaccination programme has shown our country working together at its best.
“Three out of every five people across the whole United Kingdom have received at least one dose, and today we start with the third approved vaccine. Wherever you live, when you get the call, get the jab.”
The Moderna vaccine is the third of seven vaccines that the UK has ordered. It will be given in two doses several weeks apart, like the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca jabs.
