In support of those affected by the war in Ukraine, pharmaceutical companies have come together to donate five-figure cash and source crucial supplies.

Redditch based independent wholesaler Lexon, which was formed in 1992 and works with independent pharmacies across the UK, has made a five-figure cash donation to the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

While Lexon’s ongoing charity activity usually focuses on causes local to its distribution centres across the UK, the exceptional circumstances in Ukraine prompted its management to make this significant donation.

It has also worked with Jade Pharmaceuticals to provide medicinal supplies to the support effort, to be distributed by a leading care organisation.

Anup Sodha, managing director at Lexon, said: “We are deeply saddened to witness events unfolding in the Ukraine and wanted to make a gesture to show our support in any way we can.

“Many of our staff across our distribution centres have expressed their desire to show some support for those impacted and we shared that sentiment.

“Real, practical assistance is what is needed right now, so we are proud to contribute to the Disaster Emergency Committee, who are doing incredible work.

“We have a diverse team across our sites with people affected by this in different ways, so we will continue to offer support to individuals who want to carry out their own fundraising or provide aid packages.”

Neal Radia, owner of Jade Pharmacy — a group of 20 community pharmacies based in North West London and Hertfordshire — said: “We are proud to have offered support in any way we can, this is the right thing to do and I encourage anyone who can help at all to do so.”

The DEC’s appeal has raised more than £200million so far, with the organisation saying it is ‘grateful to everyone who is giving, organising events and helping to spread the word.’
