Business secretary assures to ease regulatory burdens faced by pharmacies

Business secretary Peter Kyle recently visited Sigma Pharmaceuticals Plc in Watford and assured to ease the regulatory scenarios that have burdened the community pharmacy and distribution industry.

During the visit on April 16, the minister also met National Pharmacy Association chief executive Henry Gregg and discussed various issues being faced by the community pharmacy sector.


Sigma co-founder Dr Bharat K H Shah and Sigma CEO Raj Haria hosted the visit and the minister was shown Sigma’s distribution systems and OPD Laboratories Ltd, Sigma’s Parallel Import distribution operation.

The minister was made aware of the complexities involved in the manufacture and distribution of generic medicines and also the parallel import operation.

He was also made aware of the regulatory burden faced by medicine exporters in the UK.

Kyle assured that he will discuss all these issues with the treasury and cabinet colleagues.

The Sigma management thanked Watford MP Matt Turmiaine for arranging this meeting.
