Merseyside-based locum pharmacist, Sana Masood, has died from Covid-19, leaving a huge vacuum in her family and friends’ circles.

Sana, 30, who had type 1 diabetes, was working for Neils Pharmacy in Prescot, Merseyside. She breathed her last on April 1, with her funeral taking place on the next day.

She graduated from Liverpool John Moores University and is survived by her husband Azam, mother, and two brothers.

Sana was initially admitted to hospital following severe uneasiness. However, following complications, she was immediately transferred to intensive care, but did not recover.

She was a pre-registration student at Neils, and continued to work at the pharmacy site regularly after qualifying. Sana’s family and friends have set up an online fund in her memory to build a school in Pakistan as ‘Sadaqah Jariyah’ – ‘ongoing charity’ – in her name, and are over two-thirds of the way to their target of £9,000.

Any proceedings that exceed the target will be donated to DiabetesUK, as Sana lived with the condition from childhood.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has paid tribute to the deceased.

Speaking on behalf of RPS, CEO Paul Bennett, said: “This is awful news. Sana’s life as a pharmacist focused on supporting and caring for patients. Her loss is not only a tragedy for her family, friends and colleagues, but also for all the patients she helped during her career.

“We offer our sincere condolences to Sana’s family at this very difficult time.”
