Dexcel Pharma acquires 8 OTC brands to strengthen its consumer healthcare portfolio

The acquisition is part the pharmaceutical company’s continuing expansion in the UK consumer healthcare medicines market

Dexcel Pharma Ltd on Wednesday confirmed the acquisition of eight established OTC brands, expanding its portfolio to the therapeutic areas of gastro, sleep, male health, ear health, skin care and supplements.


The newly acquired brands include EarCalm Spray, night time sleep aid Sominex, antacid Wind-Eze, Bisodol Indigestion Relief Tablets, cold sore treatment Cymex, erectile dysfunction treatment Liberize, Yeast Vite supplements, and catarrh and head cold remedy MacKenzies Smelling Salts.

The acquisition is part the pharmaceutical company’s continuing expansion in the UK consumer healthcare medicines market, growing its existing OTC portfolio which includes heartburn and acid reflux treatment brand Pyrocalm Control and travel sickness remedy Kwells and Kwells Kids.

Andrew Ridsdale, Managing Director of Dexcel Pharma Ltd, commented: “We are delighted to welcome these established brands to our growing consumer healthcare portfolio which is built on our drive for innovation and the opportunity to answer patient needs.

“There is strong brand awareness around these products which are trusted among consumers and healthcare professionals alike. They offer us exciting avenues for both scale and growth within the UK and Ireland.”

He added that the company will now be focussing on “elevating their presence and maintaining their strong distribution within UK pharmacies and major retailers.”

The Northamptonshire-based company markets more than 80 value-added branded and generic pharmaceuticals, as well as a growing range of OTC medicines and brands throughout the UK.
