Fluoxetine 10mg tablets SSP extended until September 11

Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) issued to manage the supply of Fluoxetine 10mg tablets has been extended until September 11.

SSP05 Fluoxetine 10mg has been extended from the current deadline of June 12.


The community pharmacists have been adviced to ensure that they were using the latest version of an SSP before supplying an alternative product.

The SSP allows for the supply of capsule formulation of Fluoxetine against prescriptions for Fluoxetine 10mg tablets.

For prescriptions (NHS or private) requesting:Supply permitted under SSP05:
Fluoxetine 10mg tabletsFluoxetine 10mg capsules

The pharmacist must exercise their professional judgement to ensure the alternative product is suitable for the patient, the protocol notes.
