All community pharmacy contractors have been asked to ensure that they will be able to be compliant with the Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) requirements from January 1, 2021.
The HLP requirements will become a part of the new terms of service for all pharmacies in the New Year.
The PSNC has informed that the England and NHS Improvement’s (NHSE&I) will publish full HLP requirements for compliance in the near future.
“Pharmacies will no longer be required to comply with the PHE quality criteria to achieve HLP status, as these have been superseded by the amendments to the service terms,” the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) has said.
To fulfil the requirements of a HLP, the contractors have been asked to ensure that they have at least one member of the patient-facing qualified pharmacy staff who has completed the necessary training and assessment.
“All patient-facing pharmacy staff can use the NHS website and other appropriate public health information sources such as PHE Resource Centre, when providing advice on health issues and where appropriate,” the PSNC has said.
The pharmacy premises should have a consultation room for the patients where they can have free and fair communication and necessary consultation from community pharmacists.
The Distance Selling Premises (DSPs) must have a website for use by patients and the public accessing their services. The DSPs must be compliant with this requirement from April 1, 2021.
DSPs will provide services to the patients in a wider geographical area than that of most other pharmacies. Therefore, DSPs will need to reflect on the broad health needs of their patients wherever they may reside, rather than those residing in a specific local area.
