The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply notification for Prednisolone 5mg suppositories.

Prednisolone 5mg suppositories, a product of Swedish firm RPH Pharmaceuticals, will remain out of stock until end of July 2020 due to manufacturing issues.

Alium Medical, Clinigen, and Mawdsleys have confirmed that they can source unlicensed prednisolone 5mg suppositories.

However, an EPS prescription for unlicensed prednisolone 5mg suppositories cannot be issued as there is currently no listing on the dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d) for the imported product.

If a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, an FP10 paper prescription should be issued as ‘Prednisolone 5mg suppositories (Special Order) and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special with the below details:

  • Amount dispensed over pack size used
  • Invoice price per pack size from which the order was supplied less any discount or rebate
  • Manufacturers’/importers’ MHRA licence number
  • Batch number of the product supplied
  • SP
