Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) member Green Light Pharmacy in London on 10 Sept to highlight the forthcoming expansion across England of the NHS Pharmacy First Service, due this autumn.
The Superintendent of the pharmacy, Sanjay Ganvir, is a board member of the NPA.
NPA said they were grateful for the opportunity to talk directly with the Prime Minister about the huge potential of community pharmacy in primary care, urgent care, and public health.
Ganvir explained that, as medicines experts, pharmacies can help the government and patients get the best value from medicines.
Pharmacies can do so much more to provide accessible health services to patients, without the need for them to visit their GP. It was great to see such enthusiasm from the Prime Minster for this shift, the NPA said.
They felt much more investment is needed to boost the pharmacy network’s contribution to health in every neighbourhood.
