The pharmacy sector is split when asked about reactions to demand trends after the launch of weight loss pills in the market.

Recent figures from Boots Online Doctor show that over two-thirds (67%) of customers accessing their weight-loss service are first-time users. It also said that almost half (47%) of new customers are now choosing the Wegovy tablet.

Pharmacy Business asked readers, “How has the launch of weight-loss tablets impacted your consultation demand?”

The results from the poll:

  • 31% said there has been a significant surge in inquiries
  • 31% said no noticeable changes
  • 23% said moderate changes
  • 15% said preference for jabs

In June, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) had approved Novo Nordisk's semaglutide (Wegovy) tablet for weight loss and weight management in the UK.

Another PB Poll had also revealed that a majority of Pharmacy Business audiences think weight-loss tablets will be more popular than weight-loss injections.
