The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and the Department of Health and Social Care are to make an announcement on the reimbursement mechanism for personal protective equipment (PPE) for community pharmacy.
Both PSNC and the DH are working together to finalise a mechanism by which pharmacy contractors will be able to claim reimbursement for their expenditure on PPE during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the pharmacy negotiator has said in a statement.
“Any PPE purchased by contractors up until December 31, 2020 will be covered by the reimbursement mechanism, if it will be used by the end of March 2021,” the PSNC said.
“But contractors should be aware that any PPE purchased directly by them from January 1, 2021 will not be reimbursable via the mechanism under discussion,” it added.
Contractors can continue to order free of charge PPE for use in their pharmacy via the DH’s PPE portal, for which they should ensure they have registered.
PSNC is also continuing to work with DH and NHSE&I on financial claim for the wider costs contractors have incurred while continuing to provide NHS services during the pandemic.
