Sanofi, the manufacturer of leading Irritable Bowel Syndrome brand Buscopan and constipation relief range Dulcolax, is entering into the digestive wellbeing space with the launch of a new food supplement, Buscobiota.

Formulated to support digestive health, Buscobiota is a one-a-day capsule that contains five scientifically studied strains of live cultures, along with calcium, which contributes to the normal function of digestive enzymes. The product can be taken as part of a holistic approach to gut health, particularly for anyone looking for ongoing daily support.

The body requires nutrients to function properly and carry out vital roles. In particular, the gut is home to trillions of bacterial cells, the ‘gut microbiome’, which plays a critical role in digestive health. The bacteria in the gut make up a very important ecosystem which, when balanced, helps to maintain healthy digestion and regular bowel movements. Live cultures can support gut flora diversity, but the type of species or strain is very important.

Buscobiota is a source of live cultures comprising of three types of Lactobacillus and two types of Bifidobacterium which come in a one-a-day, vegetable capsule. The capsules are sold in packs of 30 for a month’s supply and do not require refrigeration. Studies on the individuals strains have also shown that the bacteria are able to pass through the stomach and reach the gut alive.

With increasing demand on the NHS, it has never been more important to empower the nation to live well and encourage good gut self-management. It is estimated that over £1.5bn could be saved each year and reinvested into the NHS if more people had the appropriate tools and awareness to take care of their own health.

Silvina Vilas, Marketing Director of UK and Ireland Sanofi Consumer Health Care, comments: “At Sanofi, we encourage people to take a preventative approach to their health and instill a focus on self-care. Through the addition of Buscobiota to our gastrointestinal portfolio, we aim to provide consumers with a broader range of products that support digestive health. By offering shoppers more choice and empowering people to take control of their own wellbeing, we will continue to support our purpose to serve healthier and fuller lives.”
