Asda has launched a face-to-face weight loss pilot across 19 of its in-store pharmacy locations.
The initiative gives eligible patients the choice of in-person expert consultations alongside the company's existing nationwide Asda Online Doctor platform.
The customers will be able to access physical weight management consultations with specially trained supermarket pharmacists.
The move leverages the operational footprint of Asda’s brick-and-mortar stores to build on its digital platform, which has supported more than 800,000 patients through over three million private consultations.
According to the company, the expansion follows growing consumer demand for more personalised, face-to-face clinical support.
Customer feedback highlighted a distinct preference for physical consultations to complement the existing online infrastructure. The new model combines the convenience of online booking with the clinical reassurance of face-to-face care.
Each in-store consultation is tailored to the individual patient, focusing on realistic and sustainable approaches to weight management through pharmacist-led advice on nutrition, exercise, and long-term behavior modification.
To ensure service parity and patient choice, the face-to-face service is priced identically to the established Asda Online Doctor weight management programme.
Asda director of healthcare services Faye Breckons said: "At Asda, we're committed to making healthcare more accessible, and we know that when it comes to weight management there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. While our Online Doctor service already supports thousands of patients, we've heard from both customers and colleagues in our pharmacies that many people would welcome the opportunity to access expert advice in person before choosing what’s right for them.
"By introducing face-to-face consultations with our specially trained pharmacists, we're giving customers more choice in how they access weight management support, combining personalised clinical care with the reassurance of ongoing support throughout their journey.”
The following branches will be offering in-person services: Accrington, Capehill, Corby, Edinburgh, Fareham, Chelmsley Wood, Coventry, Farnworth, Hinckley, Leicester Fosse Park, Middlesbrough, Newport, Park Royal, Pentwyn, Sinfin, Sittingbourne, Thornaby, Tilbury and Trafford Park.
