Commonly used blood pressure medicine Ramipril, manufactured by Crescent Pharma Limited, is now being recalled over packaging error.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has told pharmacists to stop supplying the affected packs as a precautionary measure.
The recall follows after it was found that some cartons of Ramipril 10mg capsules (batch number GR174091) actually contained blister strips of a lower 5mg dose.
As both product batches were manufactured at the same site, it is likely that the error occurred during the secondary packaging of the cartons.
Both strengths of Ramipril are commonly used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure and kidney disease. MHRA claims the risk to patients is low, in case they consume it.
Patients have been advised to contact their dispensing pharmacy if they come across 5mg strips in their 10 mg carton of Ramipril.
