The team at Charac have paid tribute to managing director Santosh Sahu and his wife and two children, in a statement marking over a month since they were caught up in the flooding in Nepal and Tibet.
Search efforts have now been called off in the countries, over a month after the disaster occurred.
“It has been a true honour for all of us at Charac to be on this journey with him. We are, and will always be, grateful to have known him,” the statement said.
“Santosh was one of a kind. As was his family: Surabhi, his wife and mother of their wonderful children, Spandan and Syna. They enriched the lives of everyone they knew or met with their genuine kindness and zest for life.”
The team said they now want to honour Santosh and his family “by doing all we can to continue the Charac legacy” and taking the company forward.
The full statement said:
“It is now 40 days since Santosh and his family were caught up in the tragic incident in Nepal. Thousands of people remain officially missing, but all search and rescue operations have ceased and have now transitioned to relief and reconstruction.
Santosh was one of a kind. As was his family: Surabhi, his wife and mother of their wonderful children, Spandan and Syna. They enriched the lives of everyone they knew or met with their genuine kindness and zest for life.
This created the foundation for Santosh to embark on an ambitious and very worthy project at Charac. A company focused on helping people by evolving the legacy pharmacy business landscape to better support local community healthcare.
It has been a true honour for all of us at Charac to be on this journey with him. We are, and will always be, grateful to have known him.
We now want to honour Santosh and his family by doing all we can to continue the Charac legacy. Santosh created a business of many parts, including attracting the best people in the business. We are all feeling the pain, more than we can bear at times, but we will now strive to take Charac forward.
Santosh, Surabhi, Spandan and Syna embarked on a pilgrimage to honour their gods, and we believe they are now all in their laps.
Everyone at Charac is in mourning, but we will now honour Santosh and his family, who will never, ever be forgotten, by ensuring Charac continues its successful journey to transform and support the local pharmacy landscape.
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”
Santosh, his wife Surabhi and their children Spandan and Syna were on a pilgrimage when they were caught up in a catastrophic flash flood that struck the Nepal–Tibet border on 26 August. More than 1,400 people are confirmed to have died and over 5,000 remain missing. Nepalese authorities formally ended search and rescue operations on 6 October.
