Studies report more than a quarter of new Erectile Dysfunction cases are now diagnosed in men under 40

The UK based Pharma giant Futura Medical Plc’s lead product, Eroxon, a topical Stim-gel is now available on NHS prescription in England and Wales for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

The Muti-Drug Resistant (MDR) approved alternative to PDE5i, Eroxon is available as an over-the counter off shelf at retailers like Boots and Superdrug; and is available on NHS prescription in England and Wales as a CE-marked medical device.

Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is the inability to get and maintain an erection, typically concerning men over the age of 40 due to both, psychological and physical causes such as anxiety, depression, diabetes, and obesity.

According to UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA), the approval of the medication is based on evidence from 2 Phase three clinical studies, which showed that 60 per cent of patients taking Eroxon achieved Minimal Clinically Important Differences (MCID) at 12 weeks.

The multi-centre double-blind trials included more than 300 patients aged 18 years to 70 years from across nine EU nations who suffered mild to moderate levels of ED and standard treatment, or other treatments did not work well enough or could not be used.

Dr Catherine Hood, specialist in sexual medicine and psychosexual therapist and a member of the Eroxon ED Information Panel (EEDIP) assured that the ED STIMgel has also been clinically backed and investigated for improvement in erectile function compared with baseline.

How it works

The fast-action gel stimulates pressure and temperature-sensitive free-nerve endings in the glans penis to increase blood flow to achieve an erection. As the gel evaporates, it activates a rapid cooling sensation followed by gradual warming, giving results in 10 mins.

Like the PDE5i’s before it, Eroxon achieves an erection by increasing blood flow to the penis. But, unlike the system-wide action of the traditional oral therapies, the STIMgel achieves this vasodilation via a novel evaporative and cooling action.

Symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction to watch out for

The main symptom of sexual dysfunction is the inability to get and maintain an erection for satisfactory intercourse.

ED should not be confused with ejaculation problems such as premature ejaculation, which is a condition where the process of arousal, orgasm and ejaculation occurs very rapidly.
