An MP has praised community pharmacy services during a visit to her local pharmacy in Lesmahagow, Scotland.

Dr Lisa Cameron MP of the Scottish National Party attended Abbeygreen Pharmacy last week (September 10) to find out more about the services it offers, including ‘Pharmacy First’ service which helps patients with minor illnesses and frees up time for the patients that really need to see their GP.

‘Health hubs’ for the community

The MP, who is also chair of the Health All Party Group in the House of Commons, said: “It was a pleasure to visit my local pharmacy and catch up on the latest clinical developments and the new NHS services available to my constituents and people right across Scotland.

“Community pharmacy teams in Scotland have lots of services that support people to keep well without necessarily visiting GPs. Pharmacies are open when and where people need them, with health professionals available to support with advice and treatment.”

She added: “They are ‘health hubs’ for the community and a vital part of fabric of the healthcare system.”

Abbeygreen Pharmacy is a member of the National Pharmacy Association.

Stephen McDermott, pharmacist and owner of Abbeygreen Pharmacy, said: “We were delighted to welcome Lisa to our pharmacy and show her the care we provide to people here every day.

“She was very positive and acknowledged the vital work of pharmacy teams. My team and colleagues all around the country have worked incredibly hard to serve patients during the covid-19 pandemic and it’s great to see our efforts and services being recognised.”
