The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has begun the selection process for a new chair this week to lead its council.

The new chair will work closely with the council, chief executive and registrar and wider senior leadership group to accomplish the regulator’s ‘Vision 2030′ for ‘safe and effective pharmacy care at the heart of healthier communities’.

The chair will play a key role representing the GPhC, developing important relationships within and outside of the pharmacy professions.

Current GPhC chair, Nigel Clarke said, “Our new chair will have the opportunity to help shape the future of pharmacy and of health professional regulation as we plan for change. If you are interested in being part of this rapidly developing landscape and have the qualities and commitment that we need, we would like to hear from you.”

“The council needs to be alive to the changes and anticipating how they will impact on patients, the professions and how they are regulated,” Clarke said.

Clarke has been serving as chair of the GPhC since March 2014. He was re-appointed by the privy council in March 2018.

The recruitment process will go on till August 2, and seeks applications from both amateur and registrant candidates.

The chair selection panel, chaired by Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons president, Mandisa Greene, will recommend an appointment to the privy council.

GPhC is the independent regulator of more than 55,000 pharmacists, 23,000 pharmacy technicians and 14,000 pharmacy premises in England, Scotland and Wales. It works to assure and improve the standards of care for people using pharmacy services.
