The Department of Health and Social Care (DH) has announced that there is sufficient stock of Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg to meet normal demand.

As a consequence, the serious shortage protocol (SSP08) for Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg has expired from March 8. Any prescriptions for Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg after March 8 must be dispensed in accordance with the prescription, as the SSP will no longer be valid for use, the DH said in its update to the pharmacists.

Pharmacy contractors have been advised to ensure that their SSP claims are appropriately submitted to NHSBSA for reimbursement.

Pharmacy teams are also asked to submit SSP claims using the EPS token if their PMR systems do not support or capture all the SSP endorsement requirements for a valid claim.

“If using a token to submit SSP claims, to avoid double-claiming, then contractors are reminded to mark the item covered by the SSP as ‘Not Dispensed’ or ‘ND’ on the EPS message,” the DH said.

“Where available, use the claim amend facility on your PMR system to rectify any incorrect EPS claims already submitted this month”.
