Allied Pharmacies, the new owners of a former branch of Jhoots Pharmacy in Minehead, Somerset, will close the business, just seven months after taking it over.
Allied Pharmacy in Minehead has notified NHS Somerset of its intention to stop providing pharmacy services in the town and it has been confirmed that the branch will close on 1 July 2026, according to a statement posted on Facebook last week by Minehead Medical Centre.
Minehead Medical Centre shared on Facebook: “Patients who use Allied for prescriptions will need to make arrangements for their prescriptions to be sent to a different pharmacy from 1 July 2026.”
The closure of Allied’s pharmacy in Minehead leaves three other pharmacies in the town; Boots, Tesco and Alcombe Pharmacy.
The pharmacy was one of 61 failing Jhoots pharmacies bought by Allied in November last year.
Later, Allied also acquired a further 68 Jhoots pharmacies.
Allied Pharmacies CEO Suhaib Abdullah and Managing Director Sohail Sharief had previously expressed doubts on the sustainability of the pharmacy.
The official website of Rachel Gilmour, MP for Tiverton and Minehead stated that the Minehead site has had a lower uptake than expected thus far, and Allied representatives made it clear that it is a case of “use it or lose it” when it comes to keeping pharmacies open for the medium and long-term.
MPs and patients had criticised the abrupt closure of Jhoots Pharmacy branches in various parts of the country last year.
