Sunayana Shah has been appointed chair of a newly formed consultative group at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Shah will lead the new RPS Industrial Pharmacy Advisory Group (IPAG) by providing expert opinion and evidence-based leadership to inform policy decisions and advice to government and other stakeholders.
Having worked extensively in community pharmacy, she is an expert in regulatory, medical, and pharmacovigilance policy development as well as technical, scientific, and regulatory intelligence at global level including working with WHO, European and UK organisations.
Shah worked at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) for nearly five years when as head of regulatory and safety policy she advised the pharmaceutical industry and worked with senior UK and EU government officials on international regulatory policy issues including the impact of Brexit.
Previously, she led the scientific and medical affairs teams at the Proprietary Association of Great Britain (PAGB) by developing and implementing national and global OTC reclassification policy, regulatory expertise and training programmes.
Shah is a GPhC registered pharmacist and was awarded a Fellowship of the RPS in 2018. She holds an honours degree from the School of Pharmacy, University of London, with Post Graduate Diplomas in Evidence based Pharmacotherapy (Aston University) and Community Pharmacy (University of Keele).
The newly formed IPAG will replace the Industrial Pharmacy Forum in 2021, and provide expertise to RPS national boards on matters impacting industrial pharmacy and pharmaceutical science.
