Pharmacy First consultations hit the 231,000 mark in Devon last year, providing vital care for a range of common conditions and minor illnesses.
This 47 percent year-on-year increase reflects a significant shift in how local residents access healthcare.
They are now choosing their local pharmacy to get quick, expert advice and treatment, without needing to see a GP.
In addition, the expanded pharmacy offer includes free blood pressure checks and contraceptive services. These specific clinical areas saw a 154 percent increase in uptake over the same period.
NHS Devon director of primary care Paul Green said that the Pharmacy First service has been a great success in the region.
He thanked the community pharmacy teams for their continued dedication in delivering services to local people. “By choosing the right service and preparing ahead visitors and residents can help ensure urgent and emergency care is available for those who need it most,” he added.
